Would these have ‘fixed’ Korra?

Preface: I didn't dive into 'what I would have done' territory with Korra as much as I'd assumed when I made this.

Original Post: August '12

Just spitballing some ideas on how Korra could have not sucked as much as it did:

- Korra joins the police force. -
After her initial romp through the city, Tenzin makes a deal with Lin where Korra pays off her debt by becoming a beat cop, interacting with the locals and discovering how deeply the non-bender/bender civil unrest has affected the populace.

- Mako ‘n Bolin’s parents are killed by a non-benders. -
We find out that their parents were killed when a worker’s strike turned into a riot because they were scabs.

- They learned how to bend by mobsters. -
This could already be unspoken canon actually.  It’s not-so-subtly hinted at that the brothers had connections with organized crime in the show and it provides a logical explanation how two orphaned children learned bending.

- Sato only hires benders. -
Throughout the show, it is commented on through the media that Sato Industries appears to show a heavy bias towards hiring benders over non-benders and that this is creating significant tension throughout the entire non-bending community.  It is later found out Sato was indeed favoring benders on Amon’s orders in order to create social unrest and sympathy for the revolution.

- Amon only appears during the 4th ep and the finale. -
He’s only talked about by locals as a myth or rumor whispered among the populace, like the graffiti in watchmen: a constant presence, but never overt.

- Tarrlok and Noatak bloodbend the court. -
Changes so the sons were born before he came to Republic City and the flashback reveals that Yokone was using them the entire time to make himself out to be more powerful than he actually was.  Aang breaks free by entering the Avatar state and takes Yakone’s bending away while the two hidden children watch.  Afterwards, they leave for the southern water tribe, where Yakone continues to raise them as an abusive drunk, blaming them for what happened to him.  Noatak eventually runs away to find out how to remove a person’s bending.

That’s all I can think of for now.  Oh…and get rid of the shit romance entanglements of course.  So…are these changes any good, you tell me.*  Yes?  No?  Maybe? Lobster?
